A Storm of Swords is the third novel written by George R. R. Martin for his epic modern fantasy series: A Song of Ice and Fire. There supposedly seven books in the series and the two prequels before this third volume are A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings. Just like its two predecessors, this book also got generally positive responses and reviews from critics. It also won couple of award. According to plan, HBO will adapt the first half for the third season of Game of Thrones television series.
Just like the first two novels, the story is still presented in unique multi-narrators. This time, the story is conveyed through the eyes of 10 main characters, added with another narrator in prologue and epilogue respectively, there is a total of twelve narrators.
The story in A Storm of Swords starts slightly before the end of its prequel, A Clash of Kings. The War of the Five Kings is still raging in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, with the remaining Robb Stark, Balon Greyjoy, Joffrey Baratheon, and Stannis Baratheon battling to secure their crowns. Civil war tears down the common people, the ruling House of Baratheon and the major houses of Westeros. Stannis Baratheon makes an attempt to take King's Landing but been defeated by the new alliance between House Lannister and House Tyrell. Meanwhile, a vast amount of wildlings are marching down to the Wall under Mance Rayder, with only the tiny force of the Night's Watch in its path.
