American bestselling author, Stephenie Meyer, closed her spectacular Twilight Saga with the fourth and final novel, Breaking Dawn. Actually, she already made the outline for this book but along the way, as she wrote New Moon and Eclipse, there were some changes in the flow of the plot so alterations had to be made to this final volume. Just like the first three novels, this book instantly became bestseller upon its publication in 2008.
Reviews from the critics are mixed for this one. With its exploration on more mature subjects and concepts, it became the most controversial volume in the series. However, British Book Award awarded it “Children’s Book of the Year.” A two-part film adaptation is made for this book, the first part was released in 2011 and the second in 2012.
The plot structure of this fourth volume is quite different from the other volumes, since Meyer made it into three parts with two different perspectives: the first and third parts are from the perspective of Isabella “Bella” Swan, while the second section is from the view of Jacob Black, her shape-shifter friend who loves her. The story in this novel directly follows the events of the third volume, Eclipse. Bella and Edward Cullen, the vampire she loves, get married. This marriage has made Jacob a heartbreaking man.
Bella is marrying Edward and having their honeymoon on a private island off the coast of Brazil. During that honeymoon, Bella realizes that she is pregnant. That half-human-half-vampire child in her womb is developing with unnatural rapidity. Edward believes that the fetus might kill Bella and urges her to have an abortion, but Bella refuses.
Jacob, knowing that the Quileute wolf pack plan to kill Bella and her unborn child, leaves the pack and forms his own group. In the delivery, the baby that has grown so rapidly breaks many of Bella’s bones and makes her lose lot of blood. Bella’s life is hanging by a thread, and Edward has to do something. While Jacob, who believes that Bella is already dead, blame the newborn child as the cause!
