When she feels that there is a void in her existence as the wife of Count Karenin, she meets Count Vronsky, a bachelor cavalry officer. Thus begins the affair between those two and at certain point Vronsky declares that he is willing to marry Anna on the condition that she leaves her husband. However, she is helpless under the pressures of Russian social norms—besides, despite the passionate nature she has, she also has her own insecurities. Nevertheless, this affair continues further until it comes to tragic consequences.
