Pyramids is the seventh novel in Discworld series by British famous author Sir Terry Pratchett. First published in 1989, it achieved critical acclaim and won several awards including BSFA (British Science Fiction Association). Some consider this book as one of the best in the series, especially philosophically.

Young prince Teppic is the main character in Pyramids, he is the son of the king of Djelibeybi, the Ancient Egypt equivalent in Discworld. For several years Teppic has been trained at Ankh-Morpork Assassins Guild. After passing his final test, he hurriedly returns to his kingdom because he knows that his father, the king, has dead. However, his return to succeed the throne turns out to be complicated, as he is to be the first king that is raised outside the palace and Dios, the high priest, is a perfectionist in terms of tradition. This triggers many conflicts and misunderstanding that leads to Teppic being forced to flee the kingdom with a maiden, Ptarci.

At the meantime, the kingdom has just built an enormous pyramid for Teppic’s father and it brings another problem to the kingdom. The huge structure has the ability to wrap space-and-time and since it does it excessively, it turns Djelebeybi out of alignment with the entire Discworld. Teppic and Ptarci then decide that they have to get back into the kingdom and save it from Dios’ hands, who intends to keep Djelebeybi in stagnant without any changes or progress.
