Download Wladyslaw Szpilman - The Pianist PDF eBookThe Pianist is a touching and mesmerizing memoir of the Polish-Jewish composer, Wladyslaw Szpilman. Fully entitled The Pianist: The Extraordinary True Story of One Man's Survival in Warsaw, 1939-1945, the book was composed and elaborated by Jerzy Waldorff, a Polish author who became Szpilman’s friend. The book captures the miraculous survival and all the hardness Szpilman had to suffer after German Nazi destroyed Warsaw Ghetto that made him lose all of his family, who were being deported to Treblinka and were exterminated. Amid all the devastation and all alone, he hid and strived to stay alive. Fortunately, he met Wilm Hosenfeld, a German officer who saved his life and supported him with food. Tragically, seven years later and after Nazi lost the World War II, Hosenfeld died in a Stalingrad labor camp. However, he left some valuable writings about his outrage of the evil he witnessed in his diary and they were reprinted here.
As a biography, Wladyslaw Szpilman's The Pianist PDF has had a long and winding journey to become and to be published as it is today. In 1946, it first came up with the title Śmierć Miasta (Death of a City). For more than 50 years, the book had been sidelined as a result of the Communist and Stalinist policies, in which a story telling that not all Germans were bad and not all of the oppressed were good was pretty much in the "grey areas". However, the biography has survived all those conditions and has undergone several republications.
The last edition of the memoir was published in 1999. It was slightly expanded by Wladyslaw Szpilman’s son Andrzej Szpilman and its title was changed into The Pianist. In 2002, director Roman Polanski made a famous and successful film adaptation of the book under the same title. It won several prestigious awards and brought this amazing story to wider audience.
