Her doctor and parents believe she needs psychological encouragement to keep fighting, so they decide to send her to a support group in the “Literal Heart of Jesus.”

In that support group Hazel meets Augustus Waters, a boy who brings a massive twist in her life. The two youngsters fall in love. They both embark on an adventure to follow Hazel’s fascination with the novel entitled An Imperial Affliction, which tells about cancer.
