First published in 2010, the book generated positive responses from critics. Many critics praised on how well Condie portrayed the lives of young adults in dystopian world. She got the inspiration from her husband’ question, about the possibility of a government pairing the people based on a sophisticated algorithm system.

*Brief introduction to Ally Condie's Matched*

The story in Matched centers on the main characters: Cassia Reyes, Xander Carrow, and Ky Markham. Cassia is a seventeen-year old girl and like everybody in the society, she has to present herself in front of the “matching screen” to get “matched.” The screen shows Xander Carrow, he is her best friend so it is not so surprising.

However, when the screen is about to fade out to black, there is another face flashing in the screen. It is the face of Ky Markham, an outsider at her school. The appearance of the second face confuses her. Everybody says that it just a glitch in the system. However, Cassia cannot just let the “mishap” go. She wants to know what really happens. When she tries to find the answers, she comes across a path no one in the society has ever dared follow. She has to choose between perfection and passion.
